Creator FAQs

  • What happens when I mint?

Minting is the technical term for creating a digital record of ownership on the blockchain. It is basically just a secure and stable stamp confirming that your content is your asset.

You don’t give up any control or rights by minting your copyright with Trips. Your content is still yours and you transfer no ownership of anything to anyone. The TCI (Tokenized Copyright Interest) is simply an additional step of security and proof of ownership.

  • What does monetization mean with Trips?

You are giving Trips authorization to share your data with our institutional capital providers who can then use that data to evaluate if they would like to make an offer to purchase a partial interest of your copyright.

  • Which of my videos should I mint and/or monetize?

As many or as few as you like! We encourage you to opt-in to our auto-mint feature so Trips can continue to stamp your copyright while you focus on building your brand and creating more content! We also encourage you to monetize all your videos so investors send you offers as they choose.

Obviously this is your choice but feel free to monetize any and all.

  • What does purchasing a partial interest of my copyright mean?

Once you create your Trips account and begin stamping your copyrights, you have the ability to opt in to share your asset portfolio with investors. They can then evaluate and decide whether to make an offer. If they do, and you accept, you now have the opportunity to get money today in return for paying a portion of your future royalty and revenues to the investor. All totally within your control!

  • Do I retain full creative control of my content if I sell partial interests?

    Yes!

  • How long does it take to receive money from an investor?

Once you have signed the purchase agreement, and opted in to account administration with our DRM partner Adrev, you will receive your money in less than 5 business days.

  • Can I reject an offer?

Of course. If you do not like the offer terms sent by an investor you may reject the offer and keep monetization enabled for any future offers.

  • What rights do the institutional capital providers have if I agree to sell my Copyright?

By selling a partial interest in your copyright, the institutional capital provider now has joint ownership of your copyright with you, making them partners in future revenue sharing.

You, the Creator, retain full creative control – all creative and business decisions related to the content will be in your sole and absolute discretion. However, agree you will not harm or jeopardize that relationship. You agree that you will not take any action or inaction that might frustrate or diminish the continued value or exploitation of the copyright. These include but are not limited to:

    (a) directly or indirectly deleting, removing, demonetizing, disabling access to, or changing the Content
    (b) executing any other agreement in conflict herewith
    (c) in any way attempting to sell, dispose of, assign, transfer, encumber, or hypothecate any copyrights assigned
    (d) impairing the copyright in any way

  • What happens if I do one of the above or breach my agreement with the institutional capital provider?

When you sign the agreement with an institutional capital provider, you are going to put the remaining copyright you own into escrow. That means you still own it, except in the case you materially breach the agreement. At that time, the institutional capital provider has the right to take that portion of the copyright. Please read the agreement in detail and make sure you understand these obligations.

  • When I sell partial interests of my copyright, do I sell future revenues of my videos into perpetuity?

Yes, once you sell partial interest in your copyright the capital provider will then share a portion of the future revenues. This is all coordinated through our trusted partner, AdRev. AdRev is the leading, most trusted UGC and digital rights management service in the world.

  • What else do I need to know before selling my copyright?

This is a legal binding contract between you and the institutional capital provider. Trips is not a party to this agreement. You may want to consult with your legal and tax advisor before signing.

You will also need to opt-in to work with our Digital Rights Manager (“DRM”) for administration of every video you sell a partial interest in. We need you to partner with the DRM so they can track your copyright and distribute revenues based on the percentage you sell to the investor (and you retain for yourself).

As a bonus, the DRM will also ensure your copyright is not used without your explicit consent and if they find misuse they will handle it appropriately by either claiming additional revenues for you or ensuring you are protected on YouTube’s platform.

  • What can I do with the money I receive from an Investor?

The cash is yours and as such, you may do with it as you please – buy a new camera, lights, equipment, grow your business, anything you want!

  • Once I sell my Copyright to an Investor can I buy it back?

No, once you accept a deal and receive the upfront cash, the Investor now owns part of your copyright in perpetuity.

  • If I accept an offer, can I cancel my DRM agreement to administer my account?

No. Once you accept an offer and sell a partial interest in your copyright you need to stay with the DRM as the account administrator for any TCIs you have monetized on Trips

  • Can I delete my Trips account?

Yes, you can delete your account in the setting page of the Trips application at any time.
